Tank vs Martin Results: Gervonta Davis vs Frank Martin Fight
Gervonta "Tank" Davis Defeats Frank Martin
Gervonta Davis Retains WBA Lightweight Title
Welterweight prospect Gary Russell Jr. climbed off the canvas Saturday night to earn a hard-fought unanimous decision over former lightweight titleholder Viktor Postol in a 10-round bout on the undercard of Gervonta Davis vs. Frank Martin.
Russell (16-0, 15 KOs), a 2016 Olympian from Capitol Heights, Maryland, was dropped in the second round by a left hook from Postol (31-4, 12 KOs), a Ukraine native fighting out of Los Angeles. Russell was wobbled but survived the round and gradually took control of the fight.
Russell used his superior hand speed and footwork to outbox Postol, who was making his welterweight debut. Russell landed the cleaner shots throughout the fight, and he was able to avoid Postol's power shots.
The judges scored the fight 97-92, 97-92 and 98-91, all in favor of Russell.
In the main event, Gervonta "Tank" Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) of Baltimore retained his WBA lightweight title with a sixth-round knockout of Frank Martin (17-2, 12 KOs) of Las Vegas.
